Chennai, July 15 -- A statue of late DMK Patriarch and former Chief Minister
M Karunanidhi was defiled by spraying black paints in Salem district of Tamil Nadu
today.
As protests mounted, officials immediately swung into action and cleaned the statue
and eased the tension.
Leaders of various political parties, including the ruling DMK's allies strongly condemned
it and demanded punitive action against the culprits.
MDMK General Secretary Vaiko, one of the DMK allies, condemned it in strongest terms
by anti social elements at Anna Park in Salem.
Stating that some forces which were inimical to face the political battle are resorting to such
