Beijing, Aug. 5 -- A Chinese court on Tuesday sentenced the former head of Shanghai's state-owned assets supervision commission, Bai Tinghui, to life in prison for bribery.

"Defendant Bai Tinghui was sentenced to life imprisonment, deprivation of political rights and confiscation of all personal property for bribery," Shanghai's First Intermediate People's Court said on WeChat.

All financial and material assets which were illegally obtained by the former official were confiscated and transferred to the state treasury, the court added.
