Chandigarh, Aug. 1 -- In a significant political development, prominent real estate businessman and a former senior Akali Dal leader Ranjit Singh Gill has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a fortnight after resigning from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

The formal induction took place at the official residence of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini in Chandigarh, marking a notable shift in Punjab's political landscape.

Several senior BJP leaders from Punjab were present during the event to welcome Gill into the party fold.
