Chennai, March 26 -- Senior AIADMK leader and former MLA V Karuppasamy Pandian died in his native Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday due to illness.

He was 76.

Considered as AIADMK strongman in the southern Tirunelveli district, he had served as MLAs of both the AIADMK and the DMK.

Mr Pandian, who was given the Deputy General Secretary's post by late AIADMK Supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, was twice elected to the State Assembly in 1977 and 1980 from Alangulam Palayamkottai constituencies respectively on AIADMK ticket.

After his expulsion from AIADMK in 2000, he joined the the DMK the same year and was elected from Tenkasi seat in the 2006 Assembly polls.
