New Delhi, July 28 -- The number of rural habitations affected by fluoride contamination in drinking water has seen a significant decline from 7,996 in April 2019 to 248 as of July 2025, according to data released by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

This reduction is attributed to ongoing efforts under the 'Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) - Har Ghar Jal', launched in August 2019 to ensure universal access to potable tap water in rural areas, the Government said today.
