Rio De Janeiro, Aug. 5 -- Veteran Fluminense defender Thiago Silva could be sidelined for up to eight weeks due to a hamstring strain, the Brazilian club said.

Silva sustained the injury during Fluminense's 1-0 home victory over Gremio in Brazil's Serie A on Saturday.

Scans on Monday showed the 40-year-old had suffered a grade two tear of the right hamstring, for which he is already undergoing treatment, the Rio de Janeiro club said.

Silva will miss matches in the Serie A, Copa do Brasil and Copa Sudamericana.

Fluminense is currently ninth in the 20-team Brazilian top flight standings with 23 points from 16 games, 14 points behind leaders Flamengo.
