Imphal, Sept. 17 -- Widespread flooding has submerged large parts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts, damaging homes, roads, paddy fields, and fish farms.

In a major setback to the healthcare services, the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) was forced to shut down as floodwaters entered the hospital complex. All the patients were evacuated last night as water level got increased.

According to the Water Resources Department the Imphal river continues to rise steadily, crossing its high flood level of 782.850 metres and reaching 783.400 metres at Lilong.
