Lucknow, Aug. 4 -- The flood situation in Uttar Pradesh remained critical for the third consecutive day today, with Varanasi and Prayagraj among the worst-affected districts. Several urban and rural areas continue to be submerged as heavy rains persist across the state.

Widespread rainfall over the past 48 hours has claimed more than 32 lives in rain and flood-related incidents. A total of 17 districts are currently reeling under floodwaters, prompting school closures in many areas, including capital Lucknow. The flood affected districts include Kanpur Nagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Agra, Auraiya, Chitrakoot, Ballia, Banda, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Chandauli, Jalaun, Kanpur Dehat, Hamirpur, Etawah, and Fatehpur.
