Agartala, July 9 -- The torrential rain for last two days triggered a flood situation in south Tripura's bordering locations, rendering 539 people homeless in Shantirbazar and Belonia and forcing the authorities to shift them to 11 relief camps.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for south Tripura and an orange alert for the other seven districts of the state. It predicts widespread moderate showers with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours.
