Imphal, Sept. 19 -- Heavy rains that lashed the state for several days stopped today, giving relief to the people.

A large numbers of people who went to makeshift camps came back today to their houses as water level decreased at Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Kakching, and Thoubal districts.

Those who returned said the elderly and children have not yet returned as the houses which were still inundated needed to be cleaned and repaired.

Repeated flood have led to complete evacuation of patients from the state's main referral hospital JNIMS, Imphal East. The hospital has not yet started functioning.
