Imphal, Sept. 16 -- Heavy monsoon rainfall has severely affected thousands of people in Manipur.
Roads have been cut off, the power supply snapped, embankments breached in multiple places, and many low-lying areas are submerged. Schools and colleges in the valley districts have been ordered closed.
The India Meteorological Department issued warnings this morning of continued heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Northeast, including Manipur, raising fears of further flooding and landslides. Evacuation and rescue operations are being carried out by local clubs and community groups.
