Rio De Janeiro, March 9 -- Goalkeeper Agustin Rossi saved two spot kicks as Flamengo won the Carioca championship by beating Fluminense 5-4 on penalties.
Rossi kept out attempts from Guga and Otavio in the shootout after a goalless draw in the allotted90 minutes at the Maracana Stadium on Sunday.
It marked Flamengo's 40th Carioca title and third in succession. Leonardo Jardim, who was making his debut as Flamengo manager after being appointed on Wednesday, praised the work of his predecessor Filipe Luis, according to Xinhua.
"It's great to win a title in Brazil, something I'd not achieved before," the former Monaco and Sporting Lisbon boss said.
