Agartala, Dec. 10 -- Five individuals from a persecuted minority community in Bangladesh were sent to jail for 10 days by a local court in Tripura's Dhalai district on Wednesday.

They were apprehended by Tripura Police yesterday during a routine vehicle check while travelling from Agartala to Kamalpur in Dhalai district.

According to police, the arrests took place at the Srirampur Naka point under the Kamalpur police station, where officers detained two women, two men, and a child, all of whom are Bangladeshi nationals.

In initial interrogation, the detainees, part of the minority Hindu community, shared that they had endured years of persecution from majority groups in Bangladesh.
