Ranchi, Jan. 7 -- The menace of wild elephants in West Singhbhum district has taken a horrific turn, with a single tusker killing five members of a family late Tuesday night. With this incident, the death toll due to elephant attacks in the district has risen to 17 in the past one week.
According to witnesses, the victim family was asleep in their house when a wild elephant suddenly entered the village during the night. The elephant attacked and severely damaged the house before entering it and trampling the occupants.
In the tragic incident, a man, his wife, and their three minor children were killed on the spot. However, one child of the family managed to escape.
