Shillong, July 10 -- Meghalaya Police have suspended five personnel, including a sub-inspector and four Unarmed Branch (UB) constables, following allegations of custodial torture of a 19-year-old youth accused of public obscenity and assault, at the Sohra police station in East Khasi Hills district.

The suspension came after an internal inquiry conducted by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Pynursla, Baialamphang Wanswett. The SDPO submitted his report yesterday.

"One Sub-Inspector and four Unarmed Branch Constables of Sohra Police Station have been placed under suspension with immediate effect on July, 9, 2025. Departmental proceedings have also been initiated them," Vivek Syiem, the district police chief of East Khasi Hills, said....
