Mumbai, June 9 -- Five people were killed and seven others injured on Monday when at least 10 passengers fell off an overcrowded local train that was about to arrive at Mumbra railway station in Maharashtra from Kasara, said police.
Anil Shinde, senior police inspector of Mumbra police station, said the accident occurred around 9 am. "We rushed to the spot to find five people dead and 7 injured. The victims were rushed to the nearby Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, Kalwa out of which the four injured went to Jupiter hospital on their own," Shinde added.
Authorities attributed the tragedy to severe overcrowding, with many passengers reportedly hanging onto the train doors at the time.
