Kolkata, Jan. 6 -- At least five people, including a child, were injured after a security guard's firearm accidentally went off inside a bank in Siliguri's Bidhannagar area in West Bengal, triggering panic among customers and staff on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at the Central Bank of India's Bidhannagar branch when customers were busy with routine transactions such as cash deposits, withdrawals and passbook updates.

According to local sources, a security guard's gun slipped from his hand and fell on the floor, causing an accidental discharge. The sudden gunshot led to chaos inside the bank. Five persons - a child, two women and two men - were hit by bullets in their legs.
