Aizawl, July 2 -- Forest officials under the Zamuang Forest Range of Kawrthah Forest Division in western Mizoram's Mamit district apprehended five individuals and one alleged employer on June 29 for illegal felling of teak trees within a protected plantation area near the banks of the Teirei River.
The arrests were made during a forest protection operation.
The accused were caught in the act of cutting down trees from the '1991 Teak Plantation'-a plantation established by the Forest Department-without authorisation. The operation was led
by the Range Officer and his staff as part of routine surveillance duties along the riverbanks.
