Kolhapur, Nov. 10 -- Five-day-long annual rare phenomenon, called Kirnostav (Sun-rays festival), began at Karveer Nivasini Shree Mahalaxmi temple here with the sun's rays falling directly on the presiding deity's chest and ears on the first day today.
The 'Kirnostav' festival occurrs twice in a year--from January 30 to February 3 and from November 9 to 13 every year.
In this rare and scared 'Sohala' (celestial occurrence), rays of the setting sun fall on Goddess Mahalaxmi's idol situated inside sanctum from the west (Garud Mandap).
