Dumka, Dec. 4 -- The police in Dumka district have arrested five persons in connection with an extortion attempt and subsequent firing at a hotel under the Muffasil police station area. The incident, which occurred after the hotel owner allegedly refused to pay extortion money, had triggered widespread panic across the town.

According to police sources, on November 30, unidentified miscreants demanded money from the owner of a hotel located along the Dumka-Rampurhat main road in Kusumdeeh village. When the owner refused, the accused opened fire with the intent to kill.
