Shimla, June 17 -- The Himachal Pradesh Fisheries Department has imposed a complete ban on fishing activities in all general water bodies of the state from June 16 to August 15. The move aims to conserve aquatic biodiversity and allow the natural breeding of fish during this peak spawning season.

According to the Director-cum-Chief Fisheries Officer, Pawan Kumar, the ban is an annual initiative to ensure the replenishment of fish species, especially in the five major reservoirs of the state-Gobind Sagar, Pong, Chamera, Koldam, and Ranjit Sagar-and other rivers and streams.

"During this two-month period, most of the important fish species reproduce naturally. This helps in the natural collection of fish seed in water bodies," he said.
