Kannur, July 31 -- A 39-year-old fisherman, hailing from Assam, was killed, when a fibre boat capsized in Arabian Sea at Choodat near Pazhayangadi in the district today.
According to the police, the deceased was identified as Riajul Islam of Assam.
The incident took place around 8:45 am, when a group of fishermen went fishing in the rough Arabian Sea near Choodat area and their boat capsized after reportedly hitting the sand bunds.
Co-fisherman alerted the police and fire personnel from Payyanur, following this the rescue personnel rushed to the spot and took the body out and shifted it to Kannur Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
The 52-day trawling ban implemented at Kerala along its coast will end at midnight today.
