Mandi, Jan. 2 -- After a prolonged dry spell stretching nearly four months, light rain and the season's first snowfall have brought much-needed relief to farmers and orchard owners in district.

The fresh spell of precipitation has raised hopes of improved agricultural and horticultural prospects, particularly for apple orchards that are critically dependent on winter chilling and soil moisture recharge.

The highest mountain peaks of the district were wrapped in a thin blanket of snow, including the revered religious sites of, and Shaitadhar ridge.

High reaches of Karsog and Thunag subdivisions also witnessed light snowfall, presenting a picturesque landscape and marking the first significant winter weather event of the season.
