Srinagar, Aug. 9 -- In a landmark boost to regional connectivity, a freight train from Rupnagar, Punjab, today reached the Anantnag Goods Shed in the Kashmir Valley for the first time, marking a major milestone in integrating the region with the national freight network.
The development comes over two months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Vande Bharat train which connected the Kashmir Valley to the rest of the country for the first time.
Officials said the arrival of freight train, carrying cement, is set to accelerate infrastructure projects and improve living standards for the people of Kashmir.
