Kolkata, July 19 -- In the first-ever case of conviction for a 'digital arrest' scam, a Kalyani court in West Bengal has sentenced nine individuals to life imprisonment for impersonating Mumbai Police and defrauding people of Rs 8 crores, including Rs 6 crores from victims in West Bengal.

According to the police, after a month-long effort, the Kalyani Cyber Police Station under Ranaghat Police District arrested nine individuals - including Shahid Ali Sheikh, Shahrukh Rafiq Sheikh, Jatin Anup Ladwal, Rohit Singh, Rupesh Yadav, Sahil Singh, Pathan Sumaiya Banu, and Ashok Faldu - from various parts of the country, all of whom were later sentenced to life imprisonment by the court.
