Mumbai, Dec. 25 -- Commercial flight operations commenced at Navi Mumbai International Airport on Thursday.
An IndiGo flight from Bengaluru, flight number 6E 460, landed at the airport at 7:31 a.m. amid a traditional water cannon salute.
To mark the arrival of the first commercial flight and the festive occasion of Christmas, all passengers were given a grand welcome at the airport along with special gifts.
This was followed by Akasa Air flight QP 1831 from Delhi, which landed at 7:40 a.m.
The new airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 8.
In the initial phase, flight operations will be limited to the hours between 8 am. and 8 pm, with a maximum of 24 scheduled departures per day.
