Srinagar, July 2 -- Amid strict security measures, the first batch of the Amarnath Yatris with more than 4,500 devotees reached the Kashmir valley today, officials said.

The yatris were welcomed by locals, senior officials of police and civil administration at several places.

The pilgrims were welcomed with garlands in Kulgam, Anantnag and Srinagar, the officials said.

The pilgrims will proceed toward the holy Cave shrine of Shri Amarnath Ji tomorrow via Pahalgam in Anantnag and Baltal Sonamarg in Ganderbal routes, officially beginning the 38-day yatra.
