Thiruvananthapuram, March 17 -- A fire broke out at the Government Medical College Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, triggering panic and the immediate evacuation of patients and hospital staff from the affected block.

The incident occurred in the multi-speciality building, near the surgical intensive care unit, where smoke quickly spread after combustible materials caught fire.

As a precaution, around 30 patients were shifted to other ICUs and wards within the hospital.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot and managed to contain the blaze in time, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the hospital. No casualties or injuries have been reported so far, officials said.
