Imphal, Feb. 18 -- A fire broke out at Ekop pat ( lake) in Thoubal district on Tuesday .
An official of Thoubal Forest Division said the fire was reported at a swampy area of the lake which was noticed by members of Khangabok Development Society (KDS). Large numbers of greenery were burnt by the fire.
Immediately after getting the news a team of Joint Co-ordinating Committee on Wildlife & Biodiversity (JCCWB), Manipur , Thoubal Forest Division, and Fire personnel rushed in and brought the fire under control.
Ekop Pat is a lake of historical importance and officials were investigating how the fire started. Officials appealed to people not to encroach upon the lake as it will destroy the ecologicy and biodiversity of the lake.
