Chennai, Dec. 20 -- A major fire erupted at the BSNL office on Anna Salaiin the city.
None was hurt in the fire, though fire service and rescue personnel rescued onof the staff members safely.
Police said flames were first noticed on the second floor of the multistoreyedbuilding, and over 50 fire personnel battled hard to bring the blaze under control.
The fire caused disruption to key services, including TANGEDCO's online billpayment systems and the108 ambulance emergency service, as servers andbackup equipment housed in the facility were affected.
Officials suspect an electrical short circuit or battery explosion might havetriggered the fire.
Police have registered a case and are probing the cause.
