Mumbai, Oct. 10 -- Following the Bombay High Court's directions to take prompt action against loudspeakers violating noise pollution norms, Mumbai Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against two persons for broadcasting the azaan (call to prayer) using a loudspeaker at a mosque in central Mumbai's Mahim area.
The police registered the offence under section 223 (disobeying the order of a public servant) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The individuals booked were the trustee, Shahnawaz Khan, and the muezzin, Hadis Khan, who delivered the early morning Fajar Azan at the Wanjawadi Hanfi Sunni Masjid in Mahim.
