Chandigarh, April 23 -- In a major push to strengthen the state's grassroots healthcare infrastructure, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has directed the Health and Family Welfare Department to formally approach the union Government.

The directive, issued during his role as Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee for employee welfare, seeks an upward revision of the incentives currently provided to Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers and facilitators. Minister Cheema emphasized that the state government will advocate for this increase under the existing 60:40 financial sharing ratio between the Centre and the State, ensuring that the dedicated healthcare workforce receives better remuneration for their services.
