Aizawl, Feb. 23 -- The 16th Finance Commission (FC), led by its Chairman Dr. Arvind Panagariya, arrived here on Sunday on a three-day visit to Mizoram to evaluate the state's financial requirements for the 2026-31 fiscal period.

The commission's visit comes as the state grapples with a mounting fiscal deficit and worsening infrastructure challenges, officials said.

Upon arrival at Lengpui Airport, the FC delegation made an unscheduled stop at the sinking zone in Hunthar, on the western outskirts of Aizawl, where land subsidence has been an ongoing issue since 1990.
