Koppal, Oct. 6 -- Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today dismissed renewed discussions over the demand to recognise Lingayats as a separate religion, terming it as a matter being raised only by a few reclusive Swamijis without broader relevance.

"The demand for Lingayats to be a separate religion is a matter of neither foreground nor background. Some reclusive Swamijis talk about it," Siddaramaiah said while speaking to reporters here.

Addressing another key issue, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that the ongoing caste survey in the state was nearing completion. He said the exercise aimed at building an equitable society by understanding the real social and economic conditions of every community.
