Nagpur, Jan. 5 -- Ahead of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) election scheduled for January 15, 2026, concerns have emerged over the low number of Muslim candidates fielded by major political parties, despite the community forming a significant portion of the city's population.

According to final candidate lists, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated only one Muslim candidate out of its 143 contestants, while the Congress has fielded 11 Muslim candidates among 151.

This is in stark contrast to the city's Muslim population, which makes up nearly 10 per cent of residents.
