Kolkata, Oct. 17 -- Airfares on key domestic routes to Kolkata have surged dramatically ahead of Kali Puja, despite a directive from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) urging airlines to keep prices affordable during the festive season.

The DGCA had also advised carriers to add more flights to meet growing demand, but the measure appears to have had minimal impact on ticket prices.

According to online travel platforms, one-way economy fares from Mumbai to Kolkata - typically ranging between Rs 7,000 and Rs 8,000 - shot up to a staggering Rs 27,000 on Thursday.
