Chandigarh, Nov. 26 -- Farmers gathered at Sector-43 Dussehra Ground on Wednesday under the banner of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), issuing a warning that the Jalandhar highway will be blocked if sugar mills in the state are not reopened immediately.
The protest marks five years since the national farmers' agitation began against the now-repealed farm laws.
Addressing the rally, SKM leader Balbir Singh Rajewal alleged that the union government is preparing a free-trade agreement with the United States. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of "misleading farmers" by claiming agriculture will remain protected.
