Kolkata, Dec. 15 -- About 179 bullets, both shorter and SLR, were unearthed in the erstwhile Maoists bastion at Salboni in West Medinipur when some local farmers were digging earth to close the pockets of ratholes prompting to local authority to dispatch police forces to seize the ammunition.

Official sources said the bullets, which turned fungi and were inoperative, were found in plastic packs in rat holes near Gamharia in Salboni when the farmers were digging the earth this morning.

The recovery of bullets created panic among the people, who informed the Salboni Police, who took custody of those bullets for further verification.

Police said that of the total bullets, 122 were shorter and 57 belonged to Self Loading Rifle (SLR).
