Thiruvananthapuram, July 4 -- Compensation amounting to Rs 6.63 crore from the Centre for farmers who lost poultry, ducks, and pigs due to outbreaks of avian influenza and African swine fever has been pending since 2002, said Kerala Minister for Animal Husbandry J. Chinchurani.
The Minister conveyed this to Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, George Kurian, during a discussion on issues affecting Kerala's animal husbandry and dairy sectors on Thursday.
Minister Chinchurani also urged enhanced central financial assistance to improve Kerala's disease diagnosis infrastructure, including the State Institute for Animal Diseases in Palode and other veterinary diagnostic laboratories.
