Giridih, Nov. 22 -- A stray elephant separated from its herd trampled a farmer to death today in Baghedi village under Deori police station limits in Giridih district.

The deceased has been identified as Jago Mahato.

Following the incident, angry villagers blocked the road and raised slogans against the Forest Department, alleging negligence. They claimed that a herd of wild elephants had been roaming in the Deori area for the past two days, yet no action was taken by officials to drive them away.

The protest led to long traffic congestion on both sides of the road.
