Pune, Oct. 31 -- Suicides are no indication of India's farmers' plight, being primarily a matter of "psychology, and not of economics," stated Dr Naresh Purohit, Advisor National Mental Programme and Principal Investigator for the Association of Studies in Mental Care.
Dr Purohit categorically asserted in a press release here today that while mental issues in farmers may not directly lead to suicide, they can certainly contribute to it. He claimed that the actual incidence of suicides among farmers is far less than the general trend.
