Hyderabad, Aug. 12 -- The Gopalapuram Police have busted a large-scale illegal surrogacy and child trafficking network, arresting 25 people, including doctors, medical staff, agents, and birth parents.
The prime accused, Dr Athaluri Namratha, owner of Universal Srushti Fertility Centres, is alleged to have run the racket under the guise of fertility treatments at her clinics in Secunderabad and Visakhapatnam.
The investigation began with a case filed on July 27 against Dr Namratha and her associates for defrauding a couple with fake surrogacy claims.
