Chandigarh, Jan. 7 -- Police in Kurukshetra district have arrested the sarpanch of Kharindwa village for allegedly contesting the panchayat election using a forged Class 10 certificate. The arrest came after the Supreme Court dismissed his petition, closing all legal avenues sought by the accused to retain his position.

The accused, identified as Pawan Kumar, had contested the sarpanch election in 2022 from Kharindwa village under Shahabad sub-division. In his nomination papers, he submitted a Class 10 marksheet purportedly issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). He went on to win the election by a margin of around 300 votes and was sworn in as village sarpanch.
