Thiruvananthapuram, March 11 -- Individuals and organisations across India are being targeted in a new cyber scam, where fraudsters are impersonating the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
Using social media, email, and WhatsApp, the scammers are sending fake notices to intimidate recipients and demand money under the pretext of legal action, a release said.
These fraudulent messages often claim that the victims' IP addresses were involved in illegal activities, such as foreign currency transactions or accessing obscene websites, including content involving minors.
The scammers use threats citing arrest warrants, court cases, or police proceedings to coerce payments to "resolve" the alleged cases.
