Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 13 -- In response to serious health risks posed by fake coconut oil in Kerala's market, the Food Safety Department has launched Operation Life to combat adulteration.

Surprise inspections at coconut oil production and marketing centres across the state led to the seizure of 16,565 litres of suspicious coconut oil from seven districts.

With coconut oil prices rising, the department has received multiple complaints about product quality. Acting on these reports, secret inspections were conducted. Health Minister Veena George confirmed that the inspections will continue.

Special squads, led by Assistant Food Safety Commissioners in various districts, carried out the raids.
