Nagpur, Dec. 21 -- Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday thanked the people of the state for giving an overwhelming mandate to the BJP-led Mahayuti in the municipal elections, saying the results reaffirmed the alliance's strong public support across urban Maharashtra.

Addressing the media in Nagpur, Fadnavis said he had earlier predicted that 75 per cent of the elected municipal presidents would come from the Mahayuti and the public verdict had validated that assessment.

He said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had emerged as the number one party in the state.

"So far, around 129 municipal presidents have been elected from the BJP. Overall, 75 per cent of the municipal presidents belong to the Mahayuti," Fadnavis said. ...
