Hamirpur (HP), Oct. 12 -- Arthritis is a major public health problem in India. It affects close to 40 to 60 percent of women across the globe and is also one of the leading causes of disability.

Epidemiological studies across India show that approximately one in every four women is diagnosed with arthritis at some point in her life, with around 40 percent of these women being under the age of 65.

Most of them are mothers and primary caregivers, said noted epidemiologist and Principal Investigator for the Indian Society of Rheumatic Disorders, Dr. Naresh Purohit.
