Thiruvananthapuram, Oct. 7 -- A three-member expert committee formed to review the use of cough medicines among children in Kerala has submitted its urgent report to the State Health Department.

The committee, comprising the State Drugs Controller, the Child Health Nodal Officer, and the State President of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), was constituted following a high-level meeting chaired by Health Minister Veena George. Its mandate was to study the safety, usage, and prescription practices of paediatric cough syrups in the state.

Based on the panel's findings, the Health Department is preparing to issue specific guidelines to ensure safe medical practices and prevent misuse of these medicines.
