Aizawl, April 3 -- Mizoram's Environment, Forests & Climate Change Department, along with the Assam Rifles, seized a consignment of exotic animals worth approximately Rs 1.3 crore at Zokhawthar village on Wednesday. The animals were being smuggled from Myanmar, officials of the Champhai Forest Division said.
Among the seized animals were one albino Burmese python, 27 African spurred tortoises, and three Patagonian maras.
Six people, including a Myanmar national, were arrested in connection with the smuggling.
The officials identified the accused as Thawnsuangmuang of Khawmawi in Myanmar's Chin State and five others-Jessie Lalnunmawia, Biakzapianga, Lalzuitluangi, Denga, and Lalhmangaihthanga, all residents of Zokhawthar.
