Bhubaneswar, Aug. 1 -- The Special Judge, Vigilance Court, Bhubaneswar, has sentenced former superintending engineer Madan Mohan Samantaray to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1,00,000 in a disproportionate assets (DA) case.

According to sources from the Odisha Vigilance Directorate, Samantaray, a retired officer from the Irrigation Eastern Circle, Cuttack, was convicted under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

He was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Following his conviction, vigilance authorities said they will move the competent authority to initiate proceedings for the stoppage of his pension.
